PRO-LIFE WISCONSIN APPLAUDS SIGNING OF 2025 ACT 94 EXPANDING WISCONSIN'S SAFE HAVEN LAW

For Immediate Release: March 13, 2026

(Madison, WI) – Today, Governor Evers signed Assembly Bill (AB) 237 into law as 2025 Wisconsin Act 94. This law expands Wisconsin's existing Safe Haven Law, allowing parents to safely and lawfully surrender their newborns at approved drop boxes (known commonly as “baby boxes”) or with an approved individual, such as a member of law enforcement, up to 30 days after birth instead of just 3 days after birth.

Act 94 will save lives. Extending the time that a vulnerable mother can anonymously relinquish her newborn baby from 3 days to 30 days will allow our Safe Haven Law to have maximum effect—whether she is surrendering her baby in person with an approved individual or in a baby box.

Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller made the following comments in response to the signing of Act 94:

Pro-Life Wisconsin would like to thank the authors of the bill, Senator Rob Hutton and Representative Rick Gundrum, for their leadership on this commonsense legislation that makes Wisconsin's Safe Haven Law even better. We also thank Governor Evers for his consistent support of the Safe Haven Law and for signing Act 94. This new law will save lives while giving parents experiencing an unplanned pregnancy options everyone can live with.

Act 94 will save lives as long as parents in unplanned pregnancy situations know they have the option of safe surrender up to 30 days after birth. Now it is our job to get the word out on this law so every mother knows that she is not alone, and that there is a safe solution to her crisis pregnancy.

Note: At time of this release, Wisconsin has seven baby boxes where parents can safely and anonymously surrender their newborns. You can view locations at www.crisispregnancies.org/wi-baby-boxes. Proceeds from donations to Pro-Life Wisconsin’s Baby Box Fund* have helped fund the installation of some of these locations and we hope to help fund even more of these incredible life-saving devices in the months and years to come.
