I will chaperone the minors assigned to me. I will know their whereabouts at all times. I will ensure that minors under my supervision are accounted for before any bus departure so that roll call can be smooth and quick. I will enforce adherence to the rules while on the bus ride, in particular, I will work with other chaperones to ensure that minors on the bus respect quiet times between 11PM and 6AM. I will help ensure that no unregistered people, youth, or adults are allowed on the bus at any time during the trip.
*
I will not leave minors under my supervision alone. I will not transfer my role as chaperone to another person during the time I responsible for the supervision of the minors on the trip.
*
I will be present during the check-in process to make sure minors assigned to me get their room keys from a PLW staff member and get to their rooms with their luggage. In the event that there is a delay with room key distributions, I will not leave the hotel premises without notifying a PLW staff member and will abide by the subsequent arrangements set by PLW for room key pickup.
*
I will check hotel rooms at curfew to make certain all assigned youth are in designated rooms. If I am chaperoning with a group, I will enforce the schedule agreed upon by the group.
*
I will treat everyone with respect, loyalty, patience, integrity, courtesy, dignity, and consideration.
*
I will not humiliate, ridicule, threaten, demean, nor degrade minors or others nor tolerate such behavior in the environment for which I am responsible.
*
I will not use profanity in any form in the presence of minors.
*
I will report suspected abuse of any minor to the appropriate authorities.
*
I will be aware of and adhere to emergency plans and evacuation routes.
*
I will avoid situations where I am alone with minors, always following the two adult rule. I will avoid any form of excessive familiarity, physical touch, inappropriate language, or any situation and conduct that exploits or could give the appearance of exploiting another.
*
I understand that the PLW 2023 March for Life trip is an alcohol-free zone. I will not leave the hotel at anytime to go to a bar nor visit a bar should there be one attached to the hotel. I will not use, purchase, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substances at any time during the event. I will not smoke or use tobacco products in the presence of minors nor will I purchase tobacco products for or to distribute to anyone. I understand that if I am found to be in possession of alcohol or any illegal substance, or tobacco, or that I am under the influence of these substances at any time during the PLW 2023 March for Life Trip, I will be sent home immediately at my own expense.
*
I will be in compliance with diocesan and/or archdiocesan covered volunteer policies, including the completion of Safe Environment Training.
*
I will notify PLW leadership of any concerns/disciplinary actions that may arise during the pilgrimage.
*
I will uphold the authority of those responsible for the PLW 2023 March for Life DC Trip and assist them in every way possible, respecting the authority of PLW organizers and leaders of the trip to Washington D.C.
*
I will allow the bus drivers to do their jobs. I recognize that they are professionals and they are fully capable of dealing with any issue on the bus that arises.
*
I understand that I will share a room with up to three members of the same gender. I will be respective in my language and behavior towards my roommates. I will provide my personal credit card or debit card to the hotel after check-in for any incidentals that I wish to purchase during my stay at the hotel. I will not view/purchase any adult/pornographic movies.
*
I understand that my failure to agree and abide by the Code of Conduct during the PLW 2023 March for Life Trip, I will be sent home immediately at my own expense. I understand failure to abide by the rules will bar me from future participation in PLW March for Life trips.
*
I sign by my own hand that I accept and will abide by the PLW 2023 March for Life D.C. Trip Chaperone Code of Conduct.
