Communications Director (full-time)

Job Description

The Communications Director at Pro-Life Wisconsin (PLW) performs all the tasks necessary to formulate, implement and monitor PLW’s media, promotional plans and marketing activities. The job entails ensuring that PLW makes a credible case for PLW’s 100% pro-life, no-exceptions position to the media and the general public.

Requirements

  • Christian, a good team player.

  • Understanding of, belief in, and ability to communicate PLW’s 100% pro-life position.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to assess and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.

  • Knowledge of and experience with public relations techniques, procedures, and media outlets.

  • Ability to travel to promote and represent PLW.

  • Excellent organizational and (verbal/written) communication and marketing skills.

  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings.

  • Proficient computer skills for the purposes of publishing and creating materials, including knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite—InDesign, Photoshop, AcrobatPro, Illustrator—and web-based graphic design software such as Canva. 

  • Proficiency with social media, especially Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter), and Squarespace (or equivalent) web design.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of all PLW’s public relations activities and its media presence.

  • Is the PLW media contact and establishes/maintains a relationship with the media.

  • Research for articles and studies on pro-life topics, e.g., Planned Parenthood activities and tactics, education on fetal development and end-of-life issues.

  • Produces and ensures that press releases and press statements, weekly email updates, action alerts, The Banner quarterly magazine, pamphlets, external articles and advertisements, and other relevant correspondence are prepared in a timely and exemplary manner.

  • Develops and implements an annual strategy for PLW public relations, through interviews and public speaking engagements at key dates (e.g., Roe v. Wade anniversary, Dobbs anniversary, October Respect Life Month, etc.).

  • Develops innovative marketing strategies and public relations activities.

  • Assists in the planning and promotion of various special PLW promotional and fundraising events, creating invitations for PLW events, sponsorship forms, and sponsorship recognition through means such emails and social media, etc.

  • Creates programs, presentation slides, and other media for PLW events as needed.

  • Assists PLW Staff with their media needs for PLW promotion/public speaking activities.

  • Monitors the media, e.g., newspapers, PLW email and internet, to be able to apprise the PLW Staff of relevant current developments and newsworthy events.

  • Maintains archives of PLW publications.

  • Manages and maintains the PLW websites of ProLifeWI.org and CrisisPregnancies.org.

  • Receives and posts events for PLW and our affiliates and community events in the Monday Update and on the ProLifeWI.org calendar.

  • Collaborates with staff members to promote events, programs, legislation, endorsed candidates, and development through digital and/or printed materials. 

  • Is available for public speaking events as needed.

  • Assists PLW staff in running PLW events.

  • Coordinates the photography and videography of PLW events.

  • Creates flyers for PLW events and quarterly upcoming events flyers.

  • Designs and produces PLW billboards, promotional materials: stickers, bumper stickers, pins, pens, et cetera, as well as promotional items specifically for events.

Reporting

The Communications Director reports directly to the State Director and indirectly to the Board of Directors Personnel Committee.

Employment Classification 

The Communications Director position at Pro-Life Wisconsin is a full-time, salaried position.
