Pro-Life Wisconsin, Intervenor Plaintiff in Tavern League of Wisconsin, Inc. v. Andrea Palm and Wisconsin Department of Health Services

November 12, 2020

Brookfield, WI — Pro-Life Wisconsin believes it is imperative that our organization be allowed to operate without undue restrictions to continue our most important work of saving innocent lives every day in the state of Wisconsin. The restrictions set forth by Secretary Designee Andrea Palm of the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services on March 12, 2020, and each order thereafter, continue to harm the efforts of Pro-Life Wisconsin in providing life affirming options to women in need and pro-life opportunities and resources to Wisconsinites. If abortion facilities are allowed to operate at 100% capacity and without restriction, so should we. Innocent lives depend on it.

Pro-Life Wisconsin’s legal counsel, Thomas More Society, responds to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals temporary injunction against DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm’s Emergency Order #3:

“Under our scheme of separation of powers the executive branch cannot seize control and exercise dictatorial power. We are pleased that the Wisconsin Court of Appeals has granted the motion by Pro-Life Wisconsin and other petitioners for a temporary injunction against Wisconsin Department of Health Service Secretary-designee Andrea Palm for her dictatorial actions and illegal order [...]. The order, issued today by Judge Thomas M. Hruz and Judge Mark A. Seidl, summarily reversed the order in which the Sawyer County Circuit Court erred by denying the protection sought.”

“As the case against Palm goes forward, we shall continue representing the rights of Pro-Life Wisconsin to go about their business, no less important than the business of others. Palm’s discriminatory orders and arbitrary, unreasonable limits on indoor gatherings violate the rights of Pro-Life Wisconsin – and many others. And, unbelievably, these excessive regulations carry punishment of civil forfeiture of assets for noncompliance. This is unacceptable, even in a pandemic. As federal and state judges across America have continued to remind us  - even emergencies do not override citizens’ rights under the law.”
