Trump reinstates Mexico City Policy

U.S taxpayers will no longer fund abortion overseas

With the stroke of a pen, President Trump today reinstated the so-called “Mexico City Policy.” The reinstatement prohibits American tax dollars from funding international organizations that perform and promote abortions around the world.

Pro-Life Wisconsin applauds President Trump for his action today. He is clearly signaling that public funding of abortion, whether abroad or here in the states, is horrible policy that assaults the conscience rights of pro-life American taxpayers. We are confident that a full defunding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, our nation’s largest abortion provider, is coming soon.

"The United States will end the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion overseas, along with coercive abortions and sterilization practices," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said.

Established by President Reagan in 1984 at a population conference in Mexico City, the policy bars federal funding of nongovernmental organizations that perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations.
